CRYPT ROT To Release Embryonic Devils Through Southern Lord On April 28th

Still in their embryonic stages, CRYPT ROT was conceived in Ashtabula, Ohio in 2016, however members of the group have been cutting their teeth in various other bands for some time. CRYPT ROT was formed by lead vocalist/guitarist Ryan Sposito (former frontman of Homewrecker), drummer/vocalist Matt Izzi (Homewrecker, Scorched), guitarist Joe Dedomenic, bassist Steve Cray (formerly of Homewrecker) and since replaced by Aaron Schwarz, with additional vocals from Allie Dioneff.

CRYPT ROT summons an ominous atmosphere on their debut, as they segue between pummeling blackened death metal fury, packed with caustic vocals, drop-tuned aggression, relentless riffs, spine-tingling harmonies, and creepy sounds from the darkest catacombs. Lyrically they probe matters of life, death, politics, (anti) religion, suffering, and mental health, and take influence from the masters including; Carnage, Dismember, Death, Cannibal Corpse, Repugnant, Deicide, and Dissection.

For the recording sessions of Embryonic Devils, the band enlisted Bill Korecky at the Mars Compound (Integrity, Ringworm, Homewrecker); the collaboration resulted in five brand new death anthems, refined with a high-gain sound that will grab listeners with its ferocity.

WOLFBRIGADE: Swedish Lycanthro Punk Icons To Release Ninth Album, Run With The Hunted, Via Southern Lord in April

Formed in 1995, initially as Wolfpack, after five years the band ventured into the new millennium as WOLFBRIGADE. Having released an impressive load of LPs and smaller releases through both entities, and has toured widely across Europe, the US, and more over the years, making the band one of the most premier acts of the genre. Their damning music surges with outcries against human socio-political injustices, yearning for transformation and freedom.

WOLFBRIGADE‘s Run With The Hunted surges with ten brutalizing new tracks which elevate both the harsh intensity and the melodic attributes of the band’s patented, penetrating, d-beat-ridden hardcore crust punk to new extremes of infectious viciousness. A concentrated sense of urgency lines the entire record, while a fragmented sense of dystopia fuels the scathing vocal wrath. Run With The Hunted was recorded in both Studio Fredman in Gothenburg (At the Gates, In Flames, Martyrdöd), by Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd, and in Sunlight Studio (Dismember, Entombed, Grave) in Stockholm, by Tomas Skogsberg.

Declares WOLFBRIGADE of the new album, “We looked to explore our rawness, writing straight-up, in-your-face, primitive songs. On this record, we decided to push the melodic strains even further, but without losing either intensity or brutality. Lyrically we have been inspired by both classic and obscure dystopian literature, finding suitably horrible metaphors for the decline of western society. The search for freedom continues, but this time the path is pointed inwards, into ourselves.”

Southern Lord will release Run With The Hunted on LP, CD, and digital formats on April 28th, issuing the artwork, and track listing. Stand by for audio previews and more on the album as it approaches release.

WOLFBRIGADE will tour in support of the new album, with a solid list of festival performances across Europe confirmed for the Spring and Summer months, including Huset Harcdore Fest, Superbowl Of Hardcore, SMSF Fest, Obscene Extreme, DIY Fest, Wacken Open Air, and more, with additional tour dates to be announced in the weeks ahead.

SECT: Hardcore Outfit Featuring Members Of Cursed, Burning Love, Earth Crisis, Catharsis, And More Signs To Southern Lord; Band To Record Second LP With Kurt Ballou

With two countries and four hometowns between them, SECT was born when two project ideas between tour mates merged into the same experiment, finally taking shape in 2015 and culminating in recording sessions in Raleigh, North Carolina in early 2016. The band is comprised of five veterans of ‘90s hardcore who cut their teeth in that formative moment of political, cynical, antagonistic extremes, uniting vocalist Chris Colohan (Cursed, Burning Love, Left For Dead), guitarists James Chang (Catharsis, Undying) and Scott Crouse (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance), bassist Steve Hart (Day Of Suffering), and drummer Andy Hurley (Racetraitor, Fall Out Boy, The Damned Things).

Offers Colohan of signing with Southern Lord, “My rule of thumb with labels these days is to work with one that I own at least five LPs from. Smart music business opportunities don’t mean shit without a true respect for each others’ tastes, aesthetic and passions. Between their classic doom alumni (Earth, Sunn, Boris, Sleep), their reverent reissues of cult thrash bands like Nihilist and classic hardcore like Poison Idea or Bl’ast, and the equal love they put into modern bands with the spirit of all of the above (like Power Trip or Nails), a label doesn’t get much closer to that ideal for me than Southern Lord. It was an absolute pleasure working with Greg and the SL family with Burning Love and I’m beyond excited to have SECT join their ranks.

Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson offers, “As soon as I heard about Chris Colohan being in a new band I immediately was excited and preordered their LP. I was not disappointed. SECT are harsh, unforgiving, and brutal in all the most effective ways. We’re extremely honored to be chosen to work with them. We will proudly be their ally in this battle.

Following their enthusiastically-received, self-released, self-titled LP in 2016, which passionately infused the brutalizing and infectious elements of each of the artist’s respective sounds, SECT will enter GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with Kurt Ballou (Converge) this Summer to record their follow-up LP, and Southern Lord debut.

SECT gets right down to the blast beats and breakdowns that fight it out in their chaotic jams. They cut the shit and go for the throat with no time to waste “because the Orwellian police states and irreparable social and ecological disasters we once saw off on the horizon are now on our front doorsteps, in full swing. And in just such a volatile, precarious moment as this for civilization, there is more reason than ever to keep lashing out at a world more suicidally bent on its own destruction and the exploitation of people, species and the ecosystem itself, than perhaps ever before in history.” For SECT, this is the purpose of hardcore as they know it, conveying an urgency that transcends age, credentials or scene politics, to convert desperation into real talk and action.

SECT has several Northeast US tour dates confirmed for early next month, with a run through Baltimore, Wallingford, and Brooklyn, March 10th, 11th, and 12th, respectively.

Stand by for steady influx of updates on SECT throughout the coming months.

POWER TRIP Unveils New Single And Extends North American Tour; Nightmare Logic Preorders Posted

Nightmare Logic has taken POWER TRIP‘s classic Exodus-meets-Cro-Mags sound to new places. With hooks and tightness rivaling greats like Pantera or Pentagram and production by the esteemed Arthur Rizk, Nightmare Logic punishes fans not only sonically but with pure songwriting skill. The sophomore release and second on Southern Lord Records, raises the bar and pushes POWER TRIP to new extremes. Since 2013’s Manifest Decimation, the band admits they’ve not only gotten better at their instruments, but have also reinvented their songwriting process into a more nuanced and clever system. The shift shows on this record and does so without losing any of the aggression so essential to the band.

Nightmare Logic is out February 24th on Southern Lord. Preorders for the album are now available at THIS LOCATION.

SLEEP’s “The Clarity” 12″ Receives Official Pressing Via Southern Lord; Preorders Now Live

Initially released digitally as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program in 2014, “The Clarity” is the first new SLEEP track the band has released since their critically-adored, life-changing, 1998-issued Dopesmoker album. Afterward, the band issued a very limited run of the song on vinyl which was sold exclusively at their live shows and the band’s online store. Having been out-of-print in physical format ever since, Southern Lord will now re-release the mammoth track for official distribution.

Recorded by Neurosis’ Noah Landis and mastered by John Golden, the near ten-minute-long “The Clarity” has been re-cut by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering for this new pressing, which will see release on 180-gram 12″ vinyl pressed at RTI. The B-side of the platter features a special etching of the artwork by David V. D’Andrea (Samaritan Press), and will be housed in an ultra-heavyweight picture disc-style sleeve, silkscreened with the iconic SLEEP logo.

“The Clarity” will see re-release February 10th and can be preordered at THIS LOCATION.

Remaining one of the most widely-respected and influential acts in the stoner/doom metal universe, SLEEP’s popularity has grown tremendously since their reformation in 2009. The reborn lineup, reuniting bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros (OM) and guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike (High On Fire), and including drummer Jason Roeder (Neurosis), SLEEP continues to do what they have always done; largely and without pause, make music in tune with the ages.

In related SLEEP news, the band has several performances confirmed and spread over the coming months both stateside and abroad with additional appearances to be announced in due time.
