POWER TRIP Unveils New Single And Extends North American Tour; Nightmare Logic Preorders Posted

Nightmare Logic has taken POWER TRIP‘s classic Exodus-meets-Cro-Mags sound to new places. With hooks and tightness rivaling greats like Pantera or Pentagram and production by the esteemed Arthur Rizk, Nightmare Logic punishes fans not only sonically but with pure songwriting skill. The sophomore release and second on Southern Lord Records, raises the bar and pushes POWER TRIP to new extremes. Since 2013’s Manifest Decimation, the band admits they’ve not only gotten better at their instruments, but have also reinvented their songwriting process into a more nuanced and clever system. The shift shows on this record and does so without losing any of the aggression so essential to the band.

Nightmare Logic is out February 24th on Southern Lord. Preorders for the album are now available at THIS LOCATION.

SLEEP’s “The Clarity” 12″ Receives Official Pressing Via Southern Lord; Preorders Now Live

Initially released digitally as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program in 2014, “The Clarity” is the first new SLEEP track the band has released since their critically-adored, life-changing, 1998-issued Dopesmoker album. Afterward, the band issued a very limited run of the song on vinyl which was sold exclusively at their live shows and the band’s online store. Having been out-of-print in physical format ever since, Southern Lord will now re-release the mammoth track for official distribution.

Recorded by Neurosis’ Noah Landis and mastered by John Golden, the near ten-minute-long “The Clarity” has been re-cut by Adam Gonsalves at Telegraph Mastering for this new pressing, which will see release on 180-gram 12″ vinyl pressed at RTI. The B-side of the platter features a special etching of the artwork by David V. D’Andrea (Samaritan Press), and will be housed in an ultra-heavyweight picture disc-style sleeve, silkscreened with the iconic SLEEP logo.

“The Clarity” will see re-release February 10th and can be preordered at THIS LOCATION.

Remaining one of the most widely-respected and influential acts in the stoner/doom metal universe, SLEEP’s popularity has grown tremendously since their reformation in 2009. The reborn lineup, reuniting bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros (OM) and guitarist/vocalist Matt Pike (High On Fire), and including drummer Jason Roeder (Neurosis), SLEEP continues to do what they have always done; largely and without pause, make music in tune with the ages.

In related SLEEP news, the band has several performances confirmed and spread over the coming months both stateside and abroad with additional appearances to be announced in due time.

EXCEL Issues Remastered The Joke’s On You Via Southern Lord; Album Streaming At New Noise + Release Show Added To The Power Of The Riff

Originally released via Caroline Records, and produced by Randy Burns (Megadeth, Kreator, Possessed), The Joke’s On You is EXCEL’s second full-length, which saw wide acclaim from thrash, punk, metal, and skate rock circles, as members have been known to share ramps with pros Christian Hosoi, Eric Dressen, and Tony Alva, and others. Drawing influence from a diverse range of artists including Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Jimi Hendrix, and early Corrosion Of Conformity, people often talk of “crossover” acts, but none quite do it as exceptionally well as EXCEL

Following Southern Lord’s reissue of EXCEL’s Split Image debut LP in 2014, the label’s reissue of The Joke’s On You was remastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Poison Idea, Integrity, Nails). The new version contains the twelve tracks on the original CD edition, including the track “Blaze Some Hate” — initially released as a 12″ single via Caroline, not the original release of the LP.

Stream EXCEL’s revamped The Joke’s On You at New Noise Magazine HERE.

The Joke’s On You is available through EXCEL’s Southern Lord webstore RIGHT HERE.

In celebration of the re-release of The Joke’s On You into the masses, EXCEL will play a special release show for the reissue, at a special pre-party for The Power Of The Riff in Los Angeles in December. The newly-confirmed show sees EXCEL joined by Death Crux and another act to be confirmed, playing at The Complex on Friday, December 16th, followed by the main TPOTR events taking place the following two nights.

EXCEL Live:
12/16/2016 The Complex – Los Angeles, CA @ The Power Of The Riff pre-party w/ Death Crux, more

Formed in 1984 from the remains of Los Angeles hardcore band Chaotic Noise, EXCEL caught wide attention of the masses with the release of their Personal Onslaught demo (1985). Fellow Californian thrash crossover influencers, Suicidal Tendencies, accelerated EXCEL into wide acclaim with frontman Mike Muir’s inclusion of them on his Welcome To Venice compilation (1985) and releasing EXCEL’s Split Image debut LP on the Suicidal Records imprint. Sold out tours and further successful releases soon followed, all which stomped over various sonic terrains whilst always spreading a punk attitude and a harbored love for heavy metal.

NIGHTFELL: Portland Outfit To Co-Release Debut Album Via Southern Lord & Parasitic

Southern Lord confirms the impending release of The Living Ever Mourn, the debut LP from Portland-based group, NIGHTFELL. The band features Aldebaran/Mournful Congregation, His Hero Is Gone/Tragedy members.

NIGHTFELL unites Portland, Oregon musicians Todd Burdette and Tim Call. Recorded and mixed at Red Lantern Studios by Evan ‘Maus’ Mersky, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, The Living Ever Mourn is the debut full-length born of this union of notable extreme music perpetrators, rending over forty minutes of purely epic metal, bridging morose heaviness with melodic destruction. Envisioned and executed in a period of grief, delirium and loss of life, the atmosphere and lyrics mirror the ensuing emptiness while simultaneously embracing the dichotomous power in the unwavering and eternal force of Death. At times the album embodies the guttural, bleak essence Burdette’s musical endeavors have innovated since the mid-90s, while other segments undoubtedly breathe with the murky, crushing, Northwestern oppression Call has been associated with. The entire album channels unrest through its organic delivery, at times integrating choral mantras, noise-infused ambience and thundering death marches, all combining into an a brutalizing opus that defies debilitating genre tags.

While the final street dates are still being confirmed, The Living Ever Mourn will arrive sometime in May 2014, with Southern Lord handling the CD and digital versions, while Southern Lord and Parasitic will co-release the massive vinyl version. Stand by for transmissions on the album’s official release dates as well as music from the LP and more to be issued in the near future.

The Living Ever Mourn Track Listing:

  1. The Last Disease
  2. I
  3. I Am Decay
  4. Empty Prayers
  5. The Hollowin
  6. Ii
  7. Altars To Wrath
  8. Funeral Dirge

BAPTISTS To Record Second LP At Godcity For Southern Lord

Following a few months off the grid after an action-packed first half of 2013, Vancouver’s BAPTISTS, announce their return to the front lines in 2014.

With a rabid, off-kilter and totally decimating style of punk-fueled hardcore rage, BAPTISTS mostly broke onto the scene with their Bushcraft LP, released in February 2013 via Southern Lord, who also dropped the band’s self-titled debut 7″ the prior year. The band’s potent delivery and intense live show, amidst widespread touring of the Western half of North America through much of the year saw them gaining fans of labelmates Black Breath, Dead In The Dirt, All Pigs Must Die and The Secret.

In late April, BAPTISTS will make their return trip across the entire continent to record at Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts with with Kurt Ballou engineering the album once again, as was done for Bushcraft.

BAPTISTS recently tore up Rain City Recorders in their hometown, the studio owned by Stu McKillop, who recorded their Baptists 7″. The band ripped through a full set with an in-house audience, the meaty, twenty-six minute live session captured on multiple cameras, and their set including some brand new tracks from the upcoming album. The Rain City session is now playing RIGHT HERE.

Expect more details on the new album, 2014 live actions and more to be released in the coming weeks. Locals can catch BAPTISTS in the meantime at several regional shows in the coming months.

BAPTISTS Live:
3/14/2014 Astoria Pub – Vancouver, BC w/ Chapel, Old Skin, Erosion, Weirding
3/21/2014 Fernando’s Bar – Kelowna, BC w/ Erosion, more TBA
