OKKULTOKRATI: BrooklynVegan Streams La Ilden Lyse LP In Its Entirety; Album Sees Release Through Southern Lord This Friday

Stream OKKULTOKRATI’s La Ilden Lyse HERE.

As Norwegian black metal/punk cult OKKULTOKRATI prepares to release their ominous new La Ilden Lyse full-length through Southern Lord this Friday, BrooklynVegan is now hosting an advance stream of the entire record.

La Ilden Lyse – which roughly translates to “Keep The Fire Burning” – is an album of pure, cold, grim, rawness. Themes of enduring life, transcending death, worshipping the moon, and triumphant, satanic darkness are all at play here, and the album sounds harder, faster, and nastier than ever. No more messing around. Keep it black, keep it metal, all the time.

BrooklynVegan writes, “Four years is the longest OKKULTOKRATI have gone without an album, and it seems like the time away has only made them sound more furious. La Ilden Lyse tones down the gloomy post-punk/deathrock side of the band’s earlier work, and finds them diving more head-first into their Discharge side. As usual, they combine the punk influences with the harsh vocals and atmospheric rawness of early black metal and the metallic rock and roll of bands like Motorhead and Venom, so La Ilden Lyse is still in the same general ballpark as OKKULTOKRATI‘s other albums; it’s just even nastier.”

Experience OKKULTOKRATI’s entire La Ilden Lyse early only at BrooklynVegan RIGHT HERE.

La Ilden Lyse will see release through all digital providers this Friday, May 15th including Bandcamp HERE. LP/physical bundles are now shipping from the Southern Lord Euro store HERE and US physical preorders launch on June 5th.

OKKULTOKRATI offers on the release of La Ilden Lyse, “Behind the veil of the mundane world there is fire, darkness and the old gods. Beyond space and time there is an essence of nature, existence and madness. Life is constant struggle, endurance and pain, and if it doesn’t break your spirit then you are forged stronger in the flames. Infernal hellscapes, hidden realms and a glimpse into the void, all while spitting in the face of adversity.

La Ilden Lyse is triumphant, tyrannical and transgressive music to inspire, anger and fuel the fires of pitch-black souls.

Keeping the fire alive!”

XIBALBA Premieres Title Track To Años En Infierno LP As Album Nears Late May Release Through Southern Lord

Stream XIBALBA’s “Años En Infierno” HERE.

Pomona, California-based metallic hardcore powerhouse XIBALBA prepares for their anxiously anticipated fourth LP, Años En Infierno. As the album nears its release through Southern Lord Recordings late this month, the title track to the album has been premiered through an exclusive at Revolver Magazine.

Años En Infierno was produced by Arthur Rizk (Cro-Mags Power Trip, Inquisition) and completed with artwork by longtime collaborator Dan Seagrave (Dismember, Entombed, Suffocation).

Offers vocalist Nathan Rebolledo, “‘Años En Infierno,’ as a song and record, is the embodiment of the past decade of my life. All that is good and bad in my life is thanks to this band. A selfish way of life where dreams and opportunities have come true at the cost of something or someone one. I have caused hardship and pain, something I can’t take back, but I need to change. XIBALBA as a band has decided to slow down, what the future holds I don’t know but I do know I need to slow down and appreciate.”

Revolver writes, “For the past thirteen years, Pomona, California’s XIBALBA have spearheaded a hellaciously heavy amalgamation of hardcore and death metal full of mosh-driving grooves and instilled with a deep respect for the band members’ cultural heritage,” referring to ‘the track “Años En Infierno” as, “a pulverizing, intensely personal example of the trio’s ferocious talents.”

Stream XIBALBA’s Años En Infierno early only at Revolver Magazine RIGHT HERE.

Años En Infierno will see release on CD, LP and digital platforms on May 29th. Preorders go live tomorrow for Cinco De Mayo at the Southern Lord Bandcamp HERE, the label webshop in the US HERE and Europe webshop HERE, and color vinyl + shirt packages at Closed Casket Activities HERE.

For the past thirteen years, XIBALBA has been dedicated to carving a sound which combines unadulterated aggression booming out of the vocals, an ultra-heavy low-end frequency, colossal death metal riffs, brutal hardcore breakdowns, and a trademark groove now synonymous with the group

Showing no mercy and keeping their cultural message intact with their fourth full-length, Años En Infierno takes these conventions and finds a new way of expression that the band defines as, “more harsh, brutal, and creative in a metaphorical sense.” The eight new movements onAños En Infierno culminate into XIBALBA‘s most brutalizing material to date.

OKKULTOKRATI Streams “Loathe Forever” As La Ilden Lyse Nears Release Through Southern Lord

OKKULTOKRATI is now sharing their new single “Loathe Forever,” the new single from their upcoming new album La Ilden Lyse, nearing release on May 15th through Southern Lord.

OKKULTOKRATI remarks, “Pushing beyond the grasp of simply life and death, crossing over despite one’s fleshy limitations and mortal flaws. Everything physical decays, rots and fades away, but ideas are forever. Transcending life, contempt/alienation/(self) hate/loathing are eternally constant. Embrace the frostbitten darkness and ride with us to the badlands.”

The band continues, “OKKULTOKRATI has always been more than being a band, making music, touring, and making music. Striving to be something beyond the mundane and trivial. It’s an attitude. In defiance. To everyone and everything. To not chase after trends. To seek truth in music wherever it takes you. To be an outsider and an outlaw, even though it makes you a freak. La Ilden Lyse is music for the misguided, the conspiratorial, the unappreciated and unwanted. It’s black outlaw metal. It’s a beacon in the dark, for desperate times.”

Stream OKKULTOKRATI’s “Loathe Forever” now through Bandcamp HERE, Spotify HERE, and Apple Music HERE.

Southern Lord will issue La Ilden Lyse on May 15th. Find digital preorders where “Kiss Of Death” is also playing HERE as well as the Southern Lord Euro store HERE. US store physical preorders will post in the coming days.

CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER: Home LP Reissue Out Now On Southern Lord Recordings

Stream CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER’s Home HERE.

Southern Lord presents the fifth and final installment in the CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER reissue series, releasing the Home LP today.

Originally recorded in 1994 and released in 1995, Home is characterized by MASSAKER‘s ultra-refined riffs of shrieking, screeching feedback, and rattling machine gun staccatos. Exuding confidence, authority and a natural rapport that the musicians clearly had with one another. Certain songs from earlier records were revisited on Home including “The Tribe” and “Massaker” from The Tribe, and “Templehof,” “Hunter Song,” and “Böhmen” from Black Axis. These pieces had evolved following years of rethinking, rehearsing and reshaping them on stage, as well as playing with Danny Lommen, who had replaced Frank Neumeier on drums after Black Axis. These refined versions on Home raise the level of density and tension, the ominous evocations of impending doom, booming threat, and the grim determination that’s always driven MASSAKER.

The 1994 recording of Home at the Steinschlag Studio (of FM Einheit) features CASPAR BRÖTZMANN on guitar with Danny Lommen on drums and Eduardo Delgado Lopez on bass.

Listen to CASPAR BRÖTZMANN MASSAKER’s Home at Bandcamp HERE, Spotify HERE, YouTube HERE, and via all other digital providers.

Home is now available on CD, 2xLP, and digital formats through Southern Lord. Orders can be placed at the Southern Lord webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

Arguably one of the most unique and innovative guitarists of the last forty years, CASPAR BRÖTZMANN and his enduring trio continues to perform live. The guitarist is exploring new solo material and will release his first solo album later this year.

The recording for Home took place at Steinschlag, the studio of FM Einheit, famed metal-percussionist for German avant-noisniks Einstürzende Neubauten, with Bruno Gephard on production (also at the helm for Koksofen). BRÖTZMANN‘s connection to FM Einheit traces back to the late Eighties in Berlin, as together they had released the album Merry Christmas in 1994, and subsequently toured in the US.

Recorded in Mauren, a small town in the southern hills of Germany, FM Einheit’s equipment was set up in an unused swimming pool of a detached house in while the band played in the roof of the building; an intriguing setting for the album. Home was originally released on New York-based label Thirsty Ear, which at the time was specializing in releasing renowned records by noise, avant-rock-industrialists like Swans, Jim Foetus, and Einstürzende Neubauten. The album was followed by further lineup changes, and what became MASSAKER‘s largest US tour supporting Helmet with the improvised lineup.

The trio went on to release and tour the final album, Mute Massaker (Rough Trade Records, 1998), after which, the artistic story of MASSAKER was over and BRÖTZMANN disbanded the trio.

Of course, due to the current world pandemic we must totally accept the possibility that these shows could also be affected, but we will not let that affect our hopes! Everything is rapidly changing, and it is impossible to say right now how things will sort themselves out by this December. We encourage everyone to stay home, practice the newfound art of social distancing, and stay safe so that we can help get this virus under control and live music can return!

We are, and will continue to, actively monitor the situation over the course of the next few months and we are committed to taking a pragmatic approach to the tour. If it’s not conducive to the health and safety of everyone involved, the shows will be shelved, tickets will be refunded, and we will continue to push on in the spirit of all things heavy metal!

With the album’s release date now in the crosshairs, the new single has been issued though a premiere at Decibel Magazine.

The eight damaging new movements on XIBALBA‘s Años En Infierno culminate into the band’s most brutalizing material to date, with more death metal energy than ever fueling the album, with their trademarks breakdown savagery fully on display in every track. Decibel writes with the premiere, “XIBALBA‘s name translates to place of fear, and they chose the perfect time to return to their throne atop it… The California crew is still blending death metal and hardcore, complete with smatterings of depressing doom. However, the three-year break since their last release seems to have reinvigorated the leaned-down trio on their first song back.”

FRIENDSHIP X KUROKUMA SPECIAL STREAMING EVENT WED MAR 25 – 22:00 GMT

Due to the cancellation of Friendship (JPN – Grind/PV – Southern Lord) and Kurokuma‘s (UK – Doom Metal – Astral Noize Records) UK tour after the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the two bands will be hosting a very special streamed performance this Wednesday Mar 25th at 22:00 GMT. The time has been decided as a reasonable meeting point to view the stream from different time zones.

The cancellation of the tour has lead to both bands losing approximately over £4k in flight cancellations and lost revenue. A GoFundMe donation link has been set up to help the bands recoup their losses and hopefully reschedule the tour at a later date. Donations can be made via GoFundMe at this link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/recoup-costs-for-friendshipkurokuma This stream will fall on the night of the planned last date of the tour.

Each band will be streaming a set in their own practice rooms from Tokyo, Japan and Sheffield, UK respectively. Due to health and safety concerns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, every effort will be taken to ensure that each band comes into contact with as few bodies as possible with strict hygiene procedures set in place. Expect to hear sickening grinding hardcore and pummelling psychedelic sludge spanning continents.

Friendship were due to tour their most recent album Undercurrent – released through Southern Lord and Daymare last year – with seven UK dates confirmed with Kurokuma, whose latest split 7″ was released through Astral Noize Records last year.
